Jon Poor
Jon has
10 years of experience in serving the electric and gas utility industries
throughout the world. He is a GE-Certified Six Sigma Black Belt who
has led a number of performance improvement initiatives for GE’s Energy
Services Business Unit. His professional history includes:
- General Electric Company – 10 years in field engineering
and project management in the power industry including nuclear refueling
and modification programs; six sigma operational improvement assignments;
and market and product development for gas analysis systems.
Recent Projects
Projects that Jon has developed, managed or contributed in recent years
include:
- Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) for a Large
Electrical Utility. This
project entailed developing the business case for the implementation of
an AMI platform. Analysis included work flows, cost structures, technology
selection, and system requirements. Affects on revenue cycle services,
customer service, outage management, operations and theft mitigation were
incorporated. The project resulted in a comprehensive benefit analysis
used by the utility for project evaluation and funding. A deployment
planning effort is now underway.
- Zonal Combustion Monitoring Technology development for Large
Electrical Utilities. This effort consisted of
a co-development of sensors, predictive modeling algorithms, and mechanical
modifications to measure combustion parameters of large coal fired power
plants. Customers were able to: improve monitoring capabilities, heat
rate, efficiency, asset life and comply with regional emissions directives.
- ERP implementation for A Large Industrial Conglomerate. This
project entailed the cross functional implementation of an Oracle ERP system
for three acquired companies that employed different legacy systems, work
processes, and organizational structures. Common customer care, supply
chain, technology, and finance processes were developed to support diverse
application and customer requirements. The projected resulted in
significant rooftop consolidation, fixed and variable cost reductions,
while increasing capacity utilization.
Previous Experience
Jon held a series of positions with GE’s – Nuclear Energy,
Energy Services, and Sensing divisions. In his last assignment, he
was a Product Manager, responsible for the ultrasonic flow meters and systems.
He had complete P&L responsibility for the product lines including ultrasonic
flow meters, natural gas metering stations, commercial partnerships, new
product development, and marketing efforts.
Prior his tenure with GE Sensing, Jon was a Six Sigma Black Belt for
GE Energy Services. He developed and implemented various processes
and tools to improve new product development, sustaining engineering activities,
and engineer to order products supporting the utility industries. The projects
resulted in improved delivery cycle times, higher yield rates and reduced
cost of quality expenses.
He began his career with the GE Nuclear Energy, and over a six year period,
held a progression of field engineering and project management roles supporting
nuclear power plant refueling and reactor modifications outages in the U.S.,
Europe, and Asia.
